Saw 8 is Finally Happening!

Recently, Lionsgate officially announced that they are developing the eighth film in the series "Saw". According to the Tracking Board, new writers have been hired by producers at Lionsgate to write the film, which is currently titled Saw: Legacy. No details about this scenario as well as No story details were given at this time, and it isn't known if Tobin Bell will be back to play the notorious killer Jigsaw.

Saw: Legacy will also see the return of the series' creators, James Wan and Leigh Whannell, who will serve as executive producers. In 2013, there was news that Lionsgate was producing this sequel, however, they delayed it until now for the reason of having more time to develop a better script. Besides, there is also news that Lionsgate wants to reboot the entire series.

In 2004, Wan and Whannell created a miracle when they earned an impressive $103 million worldwide from just a $1.2 million budget in 2004. Saw became a global phenomenon and a constant nightmare to many viewers. With seven installments made between 2004 and 2010, Saw stands as one of the most profitable horror franchises ever made, grossed more than $873 million worldwide, all made on extremely modest budgets of about $64 million.

After directing the original movie, James Wan didn't return as the director for any sequels, but he has remained on board as a producer as the franchise continued to churn out hit after hit. Currently, Jame is directing The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist, which is scheduled for release on June 10th, 2016. Besides, Leigh Whannell most recently made his directorial debut with Insidious Chapter 3, which he also wrote and starred in. 

Saw Legacy is expected to hit theaters in 2017.
